An image encoding apparatus comprises a selector configured to select a prediction operation, for prediction of samples of a current region of a current image with respect to one or more of a group of reference samples, from a set of candidate prediction operations, at least some of which define, as an intra-image prediction operation, a prediction direction between a current sample to be predicted and a group of reference samples in the same image; and an intra-image predictor configured to derive predicted samples of a current image region from reference samples of the same image in response to selection, by the selector, of an intra- image prediction operation for the current image region; in which: the current region comprises at least a subset of a current coding tree unit (CTU) in an array of CTUs; the group of references samples is disposed, with respect to the current image region at one or more predetermined sides of the current image region; and the selector is configured to inhibit the selection of a prediction operation for the current region, for which at least some of the reference samples at one or more of the predetermined sides of the current image region are disposed in a CTU other than the current CTU.

L'invention porte sur un appareil de codage d'image qui comprend un sélecteur configuré pour sélectionner une opération de prédiction, pour la prédiction d'échantillons d'une région courante d'une image courante par rapport à un ou plusieurs échantillons de référence d'un groupe d'échantillons de référence, parmi un ensemble d'opérations de prédiction candidates, dont au moins certaines définissent, comme opération de prédiction intra-image, une direction de prédiction entre un échantillon courant à prédire et un groupe d'échantillons de référence dans la même image ; et un prédicteur intra-image configuré pour dériver des échantillons prédits d'une région d'image courante à partir d'échantillons de référence de la même image en réponse à la sélection, par le sélecteur, d'une opération de prédiction intra-image pour la région d'image courante ; dans lequel : la région courante comprend au moins un sous-ensemble d'une unité d'arbre de codage (CTU) courante dans un ensemble de CTU ; le groupe d'échantillons de référence est disposé, par rapport à la région d'image courante, au niveau d'un ou plusieurs côtés prédéterminés de la région d'image courante ; et le sélecteur est configuré pour empêcher la sélection d'une opération de prédiction, pour la région courante, pour laquelle au moins certains des échantillons de référence au niveau d'un ou plusieurs des côtés prédéterminés de la région d'image courante sont disposés dans une CTU autre que la CTU courante.
