The invention relates to a particulate porous inorganic material which has a strong capacity to adsorb iodine in a gaseous state when placed in contact with said gaseous iodine and which, once charged with iodine, can be transformed through simple heat treatment into a dense glass or glass-ceramic matrix in which the iodine is confined. Said material is formed from particles that each comprise a solid phase, the solid phase comprising silver which is in an oxidised state and is linked to phosphorous, and open, interconnected pores, the surface of which comprises silver which is in a metallic state and capable of reacting with the iodine to form silver iodide, AgI. The invention also relates to a method for preparing the material as well as the uses of said material. Applications: packaging and storage in a matrix of radioactive iodine present in waste gases produced during the processing of spent nuclear fuels and, in particular, iodine-129.

L'invention se rapporte à un matériau inorganique, particulaire et poreux, qui est doté d'une forte capacité à adsorber l'iode à l'état gazeux lorsqu'il est mis en contact avec cet iode gazeux et qui, une fois chargé en iode, peut être transformé, par un simple traitement thermique, en une matrice vitreuse ou vitrocéramique,dense et dans laquelle l'iode est confiné. Ce matériau est formé de particules qui comprennent chacune une phase solide, la phase solide comprenant de l'argent à l'état oxydé lié à du phosphore et des pores ouverts, interconnectés, dont la surface comprend de l'argent à l'état de métal, lequel est apte à réagir avec l'iode pour former de l'iodure d'argent, AgI. L'invention se rapporte également à un procédé de préparation du matériau ainsi qu'aux utilisations dudit matériau. Applications: conditionnement et stockage dans une matrice de l'iode radioactif présent dans les effluents gazeux produits au cours du traitement des combustibles nucléaires usés et, en particulier, l'iode-129.
