An apparatus and method for energy production and carbon sequestration. A photovoltaic cell is paired with an electrochemical cell, wherein a cathode side of the electrochemical cell reduces carbon dioxide to hydrocarbon, and an anode side of the electrochemical cell oxidizes water to oxygen. The hydrocarbon outlet can be connected to a heating element of an air handling unit, and the oxygen can likewise be introduced to the unit for air improvement. The cathode includes transition metal catalysts for reducing the carbon dioxide.

L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé de production d'énergie et de séquestration de carbone. Une cellule photovoltaïque est associée à une cellule électrochimique, un côté cathode de la cellule électrochimique réduisant le dioxyde de carbone en hydrocarbure, et un côté anode de la cellule électrochimique oxyde de l'eau en oxygène. La sortie d'hydrocarbure peut être reliée à un élément chauffant d'une unité de traitement d'air, et l'oxygène peut également être introduit dans ladite unité pour l'amélioration de l'air. La cathode comprend des catalyseurs de métal de transition pour réduire le dioxyde de carbone.
