A device for modulation of light (16) having a wavelength, comprising: a first substrate (10) with a first face (81) and a second opposite face (82), and comprising a first electrode (11); a second substrate (20) adjacent to the second face (82) and defining a gap between the first and second substrate (10, 20), the second substrate (20) comprising a second electrode (21); a responsive liquid crystal layer (15) disposed in the gap, wherein the responsive liquid crystal layer (15) has a flexoelectro-optic chiral nematic phase, and is birefringent with an optic axis that tilts in response to an applied electric field between the first and second electrode (11, 21); and a mirror adjacent to the second substrate (20), the mirror configured to reflect incident circular polarised light while preserving its handedness.

La présente invention porte sur un dispositif de modulation de lumière (16) ayant une longueur d'onde, comprenant : un premier substrat (10) qui présente une première face (81) et une seconde face opposée (82), et qui est pourvu d'une première électrode (11) ; un second substrat (20) adjacent à la seconde face (82) et délimitant un espace entre les premier et second substrats (10, 20), le second substrat (20) étant pourvu d'une seconde électrode (21) ; une couche de cristaux liquides sensible (15) disposée dans l'espace, la couche de cristaux liquides (15) sensible ayant une phase nématique chirale flexoélectro-optique, et étant biréfringente avec un axe optique qui s'incline en réponse à un champ électrique appliqué entre les première et seconde électrodes (11, 21) ; et un miroir adjacent au second substrat (20), le miroir servant à réfléchir la lumière polarisée circulaire incidente tout en préservant sa chiralité.
