The invention relates in particular to a device (100) for protecting a power component (Q1, Q11), the protection device (100) being in branched connection between the current input terminal (D) and the current output terminal (S) of said power component (Q1, Q11), characterised in that said protection device (100) is configured to detect a duration during which a variable electric current passes through said power component (Q1, Q11) between the current input terminal (D) and the current output terminal (S).
