0.5-20 % by weight of urea, and,

water,

for improving the skin barrier function in a mammal by application of the composition to the skin.

2. The use of claim 1, wherein the alcohol is contained in an amount of at least 50 % by weight.

3. The use of claim 1 or 2, wherein the alcohol is contained in an amount of up to 90 % by weight.

10. The use of any one of the previous claims, wherein the use is carried out on a mammal other than a human.

11. Use of a composition containing:

30-96 % by weight of an alcohol selected from the group consisting of ethanol, isopropa-nol, and n-propanol, or a combination thereof;

0.5-20 % by weight of urea, and,

water,

for disinfection of skin on a mammal, wherein the skin barrier function is improved when the composition is applied repeatedly to the skin.

12. A composition containing:

30-96 % by weight of an alcohol selected from the group consisting of ethanol, isopropa nol, and n-propanol, or a combination thereof;

0.5-20 % by weight of urea, and,

water,

for use in improving the skin barrier function in a mammal by repeated application of the composition to the skin.

13. The composition of claim 13, for use in treating or preventing dermatitis, or atopic dermatitis, or for preventing asthma.

14. A method of improving the barrier function of the skin in a mammal, com prising the step of applying a composition containing:

30-99 % by weight of an alcohol selected from the group consisting of ethanol, isopropa nol, and n-propanol, or a combination thereof;

0.5-20 % by weight of urea, and,

water,

to a desired area of the skin of the mammal in which area the barrier function of the skin is to be improved, wherein the application is performed repeatedly.
