Abstract
(EN) Disclosed is an in vitro method for assessing whether a human patient has periodontitis. The method is based on the insight to determine biomarker proteins. Accordingly, in a sample of saliva a patient suffering from periodontitis, the concentrations are measured of two or more of the proteins Matrix metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8), Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), Pyruvate Kinase (PK) and S100 calcium-binding protein A8 (S100A8). Based on the concentrations as measured, a value is determined reflecting the joint concentrations for said proteins. This value is compared with a threshold value reflecting in the same manner the joint concentrations associated with periodontitis. The comparison allows assessing whether the testing value is indicative of the presence of periodontitis in said patient. Thereby, typically, a testing value reflecting a j oint concentration below the j oint concentration reflected by the threshold value is indicative for absence of periodontitis in said patient, and a testing value reflecting a joint concentration at or above the joint concentration reflected by the threshold value, is indicative for periodontitis in said patient.
(FR) L'invention concerne une méthode in vitro permettant d'évaluer si un patient humain est atteint d'une parodontite. La méthode est basée sur les connaissances permettant de déterminer des protéines de biomarqueurs. Par conséquent, dans un échantillon de salive d'un patient souffrant de parodontite, sont mesurées les concentrations d'au moins deux protéines parmi les protéines métalloprotéinase matricielle-8 (MMP-8), métalloprotéinase matricielle-9 (MMP-9), pyruvate kinase (PK) et protéine A8 S100 (S100A8) de liaison au calcium. Une valeur est déterminée sur la base des concentrations mesurées, celle-ci reflétant les concentrations jointes desdites protéines. Cette valeur est comparée à une valeur de seuil reflétant de la même manière les concentrations jointes associées à une parodontite. La comparaison permet d'évaluer si la valeur de test indique la présence d'une parodontite chez ledit patient. Ainsi, habituellement, une valeur de test reflétant une concentration jointe inférieure à la concentration jointe reflétée par la valeur de seuil indique l'absence d'une parodontite chez ledit patient, et une valeur de test reflétant une concentration jointe supérieure ou égale à la concentration jointe reflétée par la valeur de seuil indique une parodontite chez ledit patient.
