Abstract
(EN) Proposed is a scalable and computationally light approach to validating blockchains called the Catastrophic Dissent Mechanism (CDM). CDM uses anonymous actors who are free to join and leave the system as they please. The mechanism gives all actors strong incentives to behave honestly, both as individuals, and as members of coalitions who might benefit in compromising the integrity of the blockchain. As a result, CDM offers users Strategically Provable Security (SPS). CDM provides a foundation to create an ecosystem of federated chains which can share heterogeneous tokens using different business logic. As a result, new instances of chains can be created to serve as inexpensive, scalable platforms for a wide variety of blockchain applications and to provide a path for existing instances to be upgraded or altered without the use of hard forks or breaking the rule that code is law.
(FR) L'invention concerne une approche évolutive, peu exigeante en termes de calculs, pour valider des chaînes de blocs. Cette approche est désignée sous le terme Catastrophic Dissent Mechanism (CDM). L'approche CDM utilise des acteurs anonymes qui sont libres de rejoindre et de quitter le système à leur guise. Le mécanisme incite fortement tous les acteurs à se conduire de manière appropriée, aussi bien en tant qu'individus qu'en tant que membres de coalitions susceptibles pouvant tirer profit d'une compromission de l'intégrité de la chaîne de blocs. En conséquence, le CDM offre aux utilisateurs une preuve de sécurité stratégique (Strategically Provable Security, SPS). Le CDM fournit une base pour créer un écosystème de chaînes fédérées qui peuvent partager des jetons hétérogènes selon différentes logiques commerciales. En résultat, de nouvelles instances de chaînes peuvent être créées afin de servir de plates-formes évolutives peu onéreuses pour une grande variété d'applications de chaînes de blocs, et permettre à des instances existantes d'être mises à niveau ou modifiées sans utiliser de modifications majeures du protocole (hard forks) ou briser la règle selon laquelle le code c'est la loi.
