Abstract
(EN) Disclosed is an in vitro method for assessing whether a human patient is free from periodontal disease, has gingivitis, has mild periodontitis or has advanced periodontitis. The method is based on the insight to determine biomarker proteins. Accordingly, in a sample of saliva of a patient, the concentrations are measured of the proteins: Alpha-1-acid glycoprotein (A1AGP) and Pyruvate Kinase (PK), and at least one of the proteins Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and S100 calcium binding protein A8 (S100A8). Based on the concentrations as measured, at least one value is determined reflecting the joint concentrations for said proteins. This at least one value may indicate the probability that human patient is free from periodontal disease, has gingivitis, has mild periodontitis or has advanced periodontitis. The at least one value can be compared with at least one threshold value reflecting in the same manner the joint concentrations associated with gingivitis, mild or advanced periodontitis. The comparison allows assessing whether the testing value is indicative of the periodontal health status in said patient.
(FR) L'invention concerne un procédé in vitro pour évaluer si un patient humain ne souffre pas de parodontopathie, présente une gingivite, une parodontite modérée ou une parodontite avancée. Le procédé est basé sur la capacité de déterminer des protéines de biomarqueurs. En conséquence, dans un échantillon de salive d'un patient, les concentrations des protéines suivantes sont mesurées : la glycoprotéine d’alpha-1-acide (A1AGP), la pyruvate kinase (PK), et au moins l'une des protéines métalloprotéinase matricielle-9 (MMP-9) et protéine de liaison A8 du calcium S100. Sur la base des concentrations mesurées, une valeur reflétant les concentrations communes pour lesdites protéines est déterminée. Cette au moins une valeur peut indiquer la probabilité que le patient humain ne souffre pas de parodontopathie, présente une gingivite, présente une parodontite modérée ou une parodontite avancée. L’au moins une valeur peut être comparée à au moins une valeur seuil reflétant de la même manière les concentrations communes associées à la gingivite, à la parodontite modérée ou avancée. La comparaison permet d'évaluer si la valeur de test indique l’état de santé parodontale chez ledit patient.
