A method of determining the identity of a petroleum coke sample including obtaining a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurement of the sample, determining a relaxation decay value of a fluid in the sample from the NMR measurement, comparing the relaxation decay value to relaxation decay values of known petroleum coke materials in a reference group to determine whether the petroleum coke is one of the known materials.

L'invention concerne un procédé de détermination de l'identité d'un échantillon de coke de pétrole consistant à obtenir une mesure de résonance magnétique nucléaire (RMN) de l'échantillon, à déterminer une valeur de décroissance de relaxation d'un fluide dans l'échantillon à partir de la mesure RMN, et à comparer la valeur de décroissance de relaxation à des valeurs de décroissance de relaxation de matériaux de coke de pétrole connus dans un groupe de référence afin de déterminer si le coke de pétrole constitue l'un des matériaux connus.
