Abstract:
(EN) Black enamel frit obscurations are commonly printed on laminated and tempered automotive safety glazing where they serve to hide the adhesive used to bind the glazing to the automotive body and to protect the adhesive from ultraviolet radiation. However, frit has a number of drawbacks. Frit weakens the surface of the glass. It can create distortion in the glass due to thermal gradients. Printed frit obscurations are incompatible and cannot be used with many types of coatings. Standard frit blocks ion exchange and cannot be used with the chemical tempering process. In addition, while many types of frits are available for printing on soda-lime glass, there are very few, if any, for non-soda lime glass. As the market moves towards thinner and lighter glazing, non-soda lime glass types are finding increasing application in automotive glazing. These limitations are overcome by replacing the printed black obscuration with an obscuration formed from a thin sheet of plastic, which is integrated into the laminate. This results in a laminate having superior optical quality, higher strength and a lower probability of breakage as compared to a laminate with a black enamel frit obscuration.
(FR) L’invention concerne des zones opaques en fritte d'émail noire couramment imprimées sur un vitrage de sécurité automobile stratifié et trempé, servant à cacher l'adhésif utilisé pour lier le vitrage au corps automobile et à protéger l'adhésif du rayonnement ultraviolet. Cependant, la fritte présente un certain nombre d'inconvénients. La fritte fragilise la surface du verre. Elle peut créer une distorsion dans le verre en raison de gradients thermiques. Les zones opaques de fritte imprimées sont incompatibles avec de nombreux types de revêtements et ne peuvent pas être utilisées avec ces derniers. La fritte standard bloque l'échange d'ions et ne peut pas être utilisée dans un processus de trempe chimique. De plus, alors que de nombreux types de frittes sont disponibles pour une impression sur du verre sodocalcique, il n'en existe que très peu, voire aucun, pour le verre non sodocalcique. Le marché s’orientant vers des vitrages plus minces et plus légers, des types de verre non sodocalcique sont de plus en plus utilisés dans le vitrage automobile. Ces contraintes sont surmontées par remplacement de la zone opaque noire imprimée par une zone opaque constituée d'une feuille de plastique mince, qui est intégrée dans le stratifié. Il en résulte un stratifié ayant une qualité optique supérieure, une meilleure résistance et une probabilité de rupture inférieure par comparaison avec un stratifié présentant une zone opaque en fritte d'émail noire.
