Abstract:
(EN) A method is disclosed of electrically controlling state transition of a liquid crystal material in a device (200). The device (200) comprises the liquid crystal material (213) and a polymeric structure (210) consisting of polymerised liquid crystal material with a selected liquid crystal state. The method comprises:applying an electric field to the liquid crystal material (213) to force the liquid crystal material (213) into a high-energy state; reducing the strength of the electric field to cause a lower- energy state region of the liquid crystal material (213) to nucleate on at least a part of the polymeric structure (210).
(FR) L'invention concerne un procédé de commande électrique de transition d'état d'un matériau à cristaux liquides dans un dispositif (200). Le dispositif (200) comprend le matériau à cristaux liquides (213) et une structure polymère (210) constituée d'un matériau cristallin liquide polymérisé ayant un état cristallin liquide sélectionné. Le procédé consiste : à appliquer un champ électrique au matériau à cristaux liquides (213) pour obliger le matériau à cristaux liquides (213) à passer à un état de haute énergie ; à réduire l'intensité du champ électrique pour amener une région à état d'énergie inférieure du matériau à cristaux liquides (213) à nucléer sur au moins une partie de la structure polymère (210).
