The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a positive electrode active substance which can realize a magnesium secondary battery having a high capacity and good rate characteristics; and a method for producing same. The purpose of the present invention is also to provide a magnesium secondary battery having a high capacity and good rate characteristics. This positive electrode active substance for a magnesium secondary battery has a BET specific surface area, as measured using a nitrogen adsorption method, of 50-200 m2/g, and is such that pores having a diameter of 1-10 µm, as measured by mercury intrusion porosimetry, have a volume of 0.35 cm3/g or more and account for 30% or more of the total pore volume. A magnesium composite oxide having a composition represented by formula (1) can be given as an example of this type of positive electrode active substance. Formula (1): MgxM(3-x)O4 (In formula (1), M is at least one type of element selected from among transition metals, and X is a number that falls within the range 0.6 ≤ X ≤ 1.4.)

La présente invention a pour objet de fournir : une substance active d'électrode positive qui peut réaliser une batterie secondaire au magnésium ayant une capacité élevée et de bonnes caractéristiques de vitesse ; et son procédé de production. La présente invention a également pour objet de fournir une batterie secondaire au magnésium ayant une haute capacité et de bonnes caractéristiques de vitesse. Ladite substance active d'électrode positive pour une batterie secondaire au magnésium présente une surface spécifique BET, telle qu'elle a été mesurée à l'aide d'un procédé d'adsorption d'azote, de 50 à 200 m2/g, et est telle que les pores ayant un diamètre de 1 à 10 µm, tels qu'ils ont été mesurés par porosimétrie par intrusion de mercure, ont un volume supérieur ou égal à 0,35 cm3/g et représentent 30 % ou plus du volume poreux total. Un oxyde composite de magnésium présentant une composition représentée par la formule (1) peut être donné à titre d'exemple de ce type de substance active d'électrode positive. Formule (1) : MgxM(3-x)O4 (Dans la formule (1), M représente au moins un type d'élément sélectionné parmi des métaux de transition, et X représente un nombre qui se situe dans la plage 0,6 ≤ X ≤ 1,4.)
