Bauxite grinding compositions that can significantly reduce the viscosity of bauxite slurry, which allow alumina refinery plants to increase throughput of bauxite grinding or pre-desilication. Described are processes to improve the grinding of a bauxite containing slurry in a Bayer process comprising: adding an effective amount of a bauxite grinding composition to the bauxite containing slurry before or during the grinding step or pre-desilication step, wherein the bauxite grinding composition comprises dextran, maltitol or a co-polymer.

L'invention concerne des compositions de broyage de bauxite qui peuvent réduire de façon significative la viscosité d'une boue de bauxite, ce qui permet à des installations de raffineries d'alumine d'augmenter le rendement de broyage ou de pré-désilication de la bauxite. L'invention décrit des procédés pour améliorer le broyage d'une boue contenant de la bauxite selon un procédé Bayer, comprenant : l'adjonction d'une quantité efficace d'une composition de broyage de bauxite à la boue contenant de la bauxite avant ou pendant l'étape de broyage ou l'étape de pré-désilication, la composition de broyage de bauxite comprenant du dextrane, du maltitol ou un copolymère.
