Abstract:
(EN) The invention relates to low density fluoropolymer foam, and preferably polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) foam, such as that made with KYNAR PVDF resins, and articles made of the foam. The foam is produced by adding microspheres containing blowing agents to the polymer and processing it through an extruder. The microspheres consist of a hard shell containing a physical blowing agent. The shell softens at elevated temperatures and allows the expansion of the blowing agent, and microsphere to create larger voids within the polymer matrix. By proper control of the polymer composition, viscosity, processing temperature, blowing agent selection, loading ratio, and finishing conditions, useful articles such as foamed PVDF pipe, tube, profiles, film, wire jacketing and other articles can be produced. The microspheres may be added to the fluoropolymer matrix by several means, including as part of a masterbatch with a compatible polymer carrier.
(FR) L'invention concerne une mousse de fluoropolymère de faible densité et de préférence une mousse de poly(fluorure de vinylidène) (PVDF), telle que celle réalisée avec des résines de type PVDF KYNAR, et des articles fabriqués à partir de la mousse. La mousse est produite par l'addition de microsphères contenant des agents d'expansion au polymère et le traitement de celui-ci à travers une extrudeuse. Les microsphères sont constituées d'une coque dure contenant un agent d'expansion physique. La coque se ramollit à des températures élevées et permet l'expansion de l'agent d'expansion et de la microsphère pour créer des vides plus grands au sein de la matrice polymère. Par une commande appropriée de la composition de polymère, de la viscosité, de la température de traitement, de la sélection de l'agent d'expansion, du rapport de chargement et des conditions de finition, des articles utiles tels que des tuyaux, des tubes, des profils, un film, une gaine de fil et d'autres articles en PVDF moussé peuvent être produits. Les microsphères peuvent être ajoutées à la matrice de fluoropolymère par plusieurs moyens, comprenant en tant que partie d'un mélange maître avec un support polymère compatible.
