A system for monitoring an analyte concentration in liquid is provided. The system includes a coupon comprising an absorbent body with a window through the absorbent body wherein the liquid is maintained in said window by capillary action and surface tension. A reactant is in the absorbent body wherein the reactant is capable of diffusing into the window to react with an analyte in the liquid, or the reactant is able to react with the analyte within the coupon itself, with color-indicating by-products of the reaction diffusing into the window, wherein the analyte is present in an analyte concentration, to form a reactant with a color wherein the color has an intensity which correlates to the analyte concentration. A light source is provided which is capable of passing light into the window wherein the light is attenuated by the color proportional to the analyte concentration to form attenuated light. A detector is provided which is capable measuring an intensity of the attenuated light. Alternatively, the color change can be read by eye and compared to a color chart relating the color to an analyte concentration.

L'invention concerne un système destiné à surveiller une concentration d'analyte dans un liquide. Le système selon l'invention contient un coupon comprenant un corps absorbant avec une fenêtre le traversant, le liquide étant maintenu dans ladite fenêtre par action capillaire et tension superficielle. Un réactif se trouve dans le corps absorbant, le réactif pouvant se diffuser dans la fenêtre pour réagir avec un analyte dans le liquide, ou le réactif pouvant réagir avec l'analyte à l'intérieur du coupon lui-même, des sous-produits d'indication de couleur de la réaction se diffusant dans la fenêtre, l'analyte étant présent dans une concentration d'analyte, pour former un réactif avec une couleur, la couleur présentant une intensité en corrélation avec la concentration d'analyte. Une source de lumière sert à faire passer la lumière dans la fenêtre, la lumière étant atténuée par la couleur proportionnelle à la concentration d'analyte pour former une lumière atténuée. Un détecteur sert à mesurer l'intensité de la lumière atténuée. En variante, le changement de couleur peut être lu par l'oeil et comparé à un nuancier mettant en lien la couleur avec une concentration d'analyte.
