The description is directed broadly to a locking differential, comprising; a pair of rotating bevel gears engaged with one another via at least one pinion gear rotatably supported within a carrier; a locking member disposed within the carrier and engagable with each of the bevel gears, the locking member being movable between a locked configuration and an unlocked configuration, such that in the unlocked configuration the locking member allows free rotation of the bevel gears in engagement with the at least one pinion gear to equalise torque between a first bevel gear and a second bevel gear of the pair, and in the locked configuration the locking member locks the first bevel gear to the carrier and locks the second bevel gear to the carrier, simultaneously, to prevent relative movement therebetween.

La description concerne d'une manière générale un différentiel à blocage comprenant : une paire de pignons coniques rotatifs en prise l'un avec l'autre par l'intermédiaire d'au moins un pignon satellite supporté rotatif à l'intérieur d'un support; un élément de blocage disposé à l'intérieur du support et pouvant venir en prise avec chacun des pignons coniques, l'élément de blocage étant mobile entre une configuration bloquée et une configuration débloquée, de sorte que, dans la configuration débloquée, l'élément de blocage permet une rotation libre des pignons coniques en prise avec l'au moins un pignon satellite pour égaliser un couple entre un premier pignon conique et un second pignon conique de la paire, et dans la configuration bloquée, l'élément de blocage bloque le premier pignon conique sur le support et bloque le second pignon conique sur le support, simultanément, pour empêcher un mouvement relatif entre eux.
