Abstract:
(EN) A process for simultaneously removing silica and reducing total hardness of a natural or waste water containing silica and scale-forming ions is described. The process comprises adding (i) magnesium hydroxide or a precursor of magnesium hydroxide and (ii) a soluble aluminate compound or a precursor of aluminate to said water while maintaining the pH of said stream at pH > 8 to produce a layered double hydroxide in situ, wherein the layered double hydroxide contains the scale-forming ions in a lattice of the layered double hydroxide and silica is incorporated in the lattice of the layered double hydroxide as an interlayer anion and/or bound by the layered double hydroxide via one or more binding modes.
(FR) L'invention concerne un procédé simultané d'élimination de la silice et de réduction de la dureté totale d'une eau naturelle ou usée contenant de la silice et des ions générateurs de tartre. Le procédé consiste à ajouter (i) de l'hydroxyde de magnésium ou un précurseur d'hydroxyde de magnésium et (ii) un composé d'aluminate soluble ou un précurseur d'aluminate à ladite eau tout en maintenant le pH du courant à un pH > 8 pour produire un hydroxyde double lamellaire in situ, l'hydroxyde double lamellaire contenant les ions générateurs de tartre dans le milieu moléculaire de l'hydroxyde double lamellaire, et de la silice étant incorporée dans le milieu moléculaire de l'hydroxyde double lamellaire en tant qu'anion d'intercouche ou liée à l'hydroxyde double lamellaire par l'intermédiaire d'un ou de plusieurs modes de liaison.
