Abstract:
(EN) A system and method for improving stability of a wheelchair user includes a wheelchair having sensors measuring motion parameters to sense collisions and sharp turns which may unseat the user. Neuromuscular stimulating electrodes attached to extensor and flexor muscles of the user's trunk and under the command of a controller in communication with the sensors activate the muscles during turns and collisions to counteract the forces induced. A system and method for increasing manual propulsion efficiency includes sensors for sensing motion parameters indicating completion of a manual push of the wheelchair wheels and recovery from the push. Neuromuscular stimulating electrodes attached to extensor and flexor muscles of the user's trunk and under the command of a controller in communication with the sensors activate the muscles at the appropriate time in the cycle of push and recovery.
(FR) Un système et un procédé pour améliorer la stabilité d'un utilisateur de fauteuil roulant comprennent un fauteuil roulant ayant des capteurs mesurant des paramètres de mouvement pour détecter les collisions et les virages serrés qui peuvent déloger l'utilisateur. Des électrodes de stimulation neuromusculaire fixées aux muscles extenseurs et fléchisseurs du tronc de l'utilisateur et sous la commande d'un dispositif de commande en communication avec les capteurs activent les muscles pendant les virages et les collisions afin de contrebalancer les forces induites. Un système et un procédé pour augmenter l'efficacité de la propulsion manuelle comprennent des capteurs pour détecter des paramètres de mouvement indiquant l'achèvement d'une poussée manuelle des roues de fauteuil roulant et la récupération à partir de la poussée.
