What is claimed is:

1. A method for a wireless device (16) for selection of beams to be included in a measurement report, the method comprising:

selecting (S 104) at least one cell for a measurement report;

for each of the selected at least one cell, including (S 106) at least a strongest beam in the measurement report; and

transmitting (S 108) the measurement report to a network node (14).

2. The method of Claim 1, further comprising including a number of beams in the measurement report until the number of beams exceeds a threshold number.

3. The method of Claim 2, wherein the transmission of the measurement report to the network node (14) is in response to the number of beams in the measurement report exceeding the threshold number.

4. The method of any one of Claims 1-3, further comprising including at least one beam in the measurement report above a beam strength threshold.

5. The method of Claim 4, wherein the beam strength threshold is an absolute threshold.

6. The method of any one of Claims 1-5, wherein the strongest beam for each of the at least one cell is a best beam for each of the at least one cell.

7. The method of any one of Claims 1-6, wherein the transmitted measurement report includes at least the strongest beam for each of the selected at least one cell.

8. The method of any one of Claims 1-7, further comprising, for each of the at least one cell, including a next strongest beam in the measurement report.

9. The method of any one of Claims 1-8, further comprising, after including at least the strongest beam for each of the selected at least one cell in the measurement report, selecting at least one remaining beam to be included in the measurement report.

10. The method of Claim 9, wherein selecting the at least one remaining beam to be included in the measurement report further comprises selecting at least one strongest beam among beams of the at least one cell that are not yet included in the measurement report.

11. The method of Claim 10, further comprising including the selected at least one remaining beam in the measurement report.

12. The method of any one of Claims 9-11, wherein the transmitted measurement report includes the strongest beam for each of the selected at least one cell and the selected at least one remaining beam.

13. The method of any one of Claims 1-12, further comprising:

sorting selected cells to be included in the measurement report in a descending order of cell level quality; and

selecting at least one beam of a strongest cell from the sorted selected cells to include in the measurement report.

14. The method of any one of Claims 1-13, further comprising, if a number of beams included in the transmitted measurement report does not exceed a threshold number of beams, transmitting beam level information associated with at least one non-triggered cell.

15. The method of any one of Claims 1-14, further comprising:

receiving, from a network node (14), an indication of a beam selection strategy for including beams in the measurement report; and

including the beams in the measurement report based on the indicated beam selection strategy.

16. A wireless device (16) for selection of beams to be included in a measurement report, the wireless device (16) comprising processing circuitry (42) configured to cause the wireless device (16) to:

select at least one cell for a measurement report;

for each of the selected at least one cell, include at least a strongest beam in the measurement report; and

transmit the measurement report to a network node (14).

17. The wireless device (16) of Claim 16, wherein the processing circuitry (42) is further configured to cause the wireless device (16) to include a number of beams in the measurement report until the number of beams exceeds a threshold number.

18. The wireless device (16) of Claim 17, wherein the transmission of the measurement report to the network node (14) is in response to the number of beams in the measurement report exceeding the threshold number.

19. The wireless device (16) of any one of Claims 16-18, wherein the processing circuitry (42) is further configured to cause the wireless device (16) to include at least one beam in the measurement report above a beam strength threshold.

20. The wireless device (16) of Claim 19, wherein the beam strength threshold is an absolute threshold.

21. The wireless device (16) of any one of Claims 16-20, wherein the strongest beam for each of the at least one cell is a best beam for each of the at least one cell.

22. The wireless device (16) of any one of Claims 16-21, wherein the transmitted measurement report includes at least the strongest beam for each of the selected at least one cell.

23. The wireless device (16) of any one of Claims 16-22, wherein the processing circuitry (42) is further configured to cause the wireless device (16) to, for each of the at least one cell, include a next strongest beam in the measurement report.

24. The wireless device (16) of any one of Claims 16-23, wherein the processing circuitry (42) is further configured to cause the wireless device (16) to, after including at least the strongest beam for each of the selected at least one cell in the measurement report, select at least one remaining beam to be included in the measurement report.

25. The wireless device (16) of Claim 24, wherein the processing circuitry (42) is further configured to cause the wireless device (16) to select the at least one remaining beam to be included in the measurement report by being further configured to cause the wireless device (16) to select at least one strongest beam among beams of the at least one cell that are not yet included in the measurement report.

26. The wireless device (16) of Claim 25, wherein the processing circuitry (42) is further configured to cause the wireless device (16) to include the selected at least one remaining beam in the measurement report.

27. The wireless device (16) of any one of Claims 24-26, wherein the transmitted measurement report includes the strongest beam for each of the selected at least one cell and the selected at least one remaining beam.

28. The wireless device (16) of any one of Claims 16-27, wherein the processing circuitry (42) is further configured to cause the wireless device (16) to: sort selected cells to be included in the measurement report in a descending order of cell level quality; and

select at least one beam of a strongest cell from the sorted selected cells to include in the measurement report.

29. The wireless device (16) of any one of Claims 16-28, wherein the processing circuitry (42) is further configured to cause the wireless device (16) to, if a number of beams included in the transmitted measurement report does not exceed a threshold number of beams, transmit beam level information associated with at least one non-triggered cell.

30. The wireless device (16) of any one of Claims 16-29, wherein the processing circuitry (42) is further configured to cause the wireless device (16) to: receive, from a network node (14), an indication of a beam selection strategy for including beams in the measurement report; and

include the beams in the measurement report based on the indicated beam selection strategy.

31. A method for a wireless device (16) for selection of beams to be included in a measurement report, the method comprising:

including (S 110) at least one beam in a measurement report based at least in part on whether the at least one beam exceeds a beam strength threshold; and

transmitting (S 112) the measurement report to a network node (14).

32. The method of Claim 31, wherein the beam strength threshold is an absolute threshold.

33. The method of any one of Claims 31 and 32, further comprising: selecting at least one cell for the measurement report; and

for each of the selected at least one cell, including at least another beam to be included in the measurement report.

34. The method of Claim 33, wherein including the at least another beam in the measurement report further comprises, for each of the selected at least one cell, including at least a strongest beam in the measurement report.

35. A wireless device (16) for selection of beams to be included in a measurement report, the wireless device (16) comprising processing circuitry (42) configured to cause the wireless device (16) to:

include at least one beam in a measurement report based at least in part on whether the at least one beam exceeds a beam strength threshold; and

transmit the measurement report to a network node (14).

36. The wireless device (16) of Claim 35, wherein the beam strength threshold is an absolute threshold.

37. The wireless device (16) of any one of Claims 35 and 36, wherein the processing circuitry (42) is further configured to cause the wireless device (16) to: select at least one cell for the measurement report; and

for each of the selected at least one cell, include at least another beam to be included in the measurement report.

38. The wireless device (16) of Claim 37, wherein the processing circuitry (42) is further configured to cause the wireless device (16) to include the at least another beam in the measurement report by being further configured to cause the wireless device (16) to, for each of the selected at least one cell, include at least a strongest beam in the measurement report.

39. A method for a network node (14) for configuring a wireless device (16) to include beams in a measurement report, the method comprising:

transmitting (S 100) a beam selection strategy to a wireless device (16); and receiving (S 102) a measurement report including beam level measurements from the wireless device (16), the beam level measurements included in the measurement report based at least in part on the transmitted beam selection strategy.

40. The method of Claim 39, further comprising transmitting an indication of a number of beams to be included in the measurement report to the wireless device (16).

41. The method of any one of Claims 39 and 40, further comprising selecting the transmitted beam selection strategy from a plurality of available beam selection strategies.

42. The method of any one of Claims 39-41, further comprising:

selecting a first beam selection strategy for a first number of cells to be reported by the wireless device (16); and

selecting a second beam selection strategy for remaining cells to be reported by the wireless device (16), the first beam selection strategy being different from the second beam selection strategy.

43. A network node (14) for configuring a wireless device (16) to include beams in a measurement report, the network node (14) comprising processing circuitry (22) configured to cause the network node (14) to:

transmit a beam selection strategy to a wireless device (16); and

receive a measurement report including beam level measurements from the wireless device (16), the beam level measurements included in the measurement report based at least in part on the transmitted beam selection strategy.

44. The network node (14) of Claim 43, wherein the processing circuitry

(22) is further configured to cause the network node (14) to transmit an indication of a number of beams to be included in the measurement report to the wireless device (16).

45. The network node (14) of any one of Claims 43 and 44, wherein the processing circuitry (22) is further configured to cause the network node (14) to select the transmitted beam selection strategy from a plurality of beam selection strategies.

46. The network node (14) of any one of Claims 43-45, wherein the processing circuitry (22) is further configured to cause the network node (14) to: select a first beam selection strategy for a first number of cells to be reported by the wireless device (16); and

select a second beam selection strategy for remaining cells to be reported by the wireless device (16), the first beam selection strategy being different from the second beam selection strategy.
