Abstract:
(EN) A laser beam(s) is used to cut heat strengthened (e.g., thermally tempered) glass. The heat strengthened glass may be coated in certain example embodiments, such as with a multi-layer low-emissivity (low-E) coating and/or an antireflective (AR) coating. It has been found that focusing the laser beam(s) in a tensile stress zone, in a central area of the heat strengthened glass (as opposed to in a compression stress zone), during a cutting process provides for improved cutting characteristics to avoid and/or reduce fragmenting of the glass and to provide for a clean cut edge. The wavelength emitted from the laser may be tailored based on spectral characteristics of the coating.
(FR) L'invention concerne un verre renforcé à la chaleur (par exemple, trempé thermiquement) découpé au moyen d'un ou de plusieurs faisceaux laser. Selon certains modes de réalisation donnés à titre d'exemple, le verre renforcé à la chaleur peut être revêtu, par exemple avec un revêtement multicouche à faible émissivité (low-E) et/ou un revêtement antireflet (AR). Il a été découvert que la focalisation du ou des faisceaux laser dans une zone de contrainte de traction, dans une région centrale du verre renforcé à la chaleur (par opposition à une zone de contrainte de compression), au cours d'un processus de découpe, permet d'obtenir des caractéristiques de découpe améliorées en vue d'éviter et/ou de réduire la fragmentation du verre et de fournir un bord de découpe propre. La longueur d'onde émise par le laser peut être adaptée sur la base de caractéristiques spectrales du revêtement.
