Claims

1. Naturally occurring or artificial oxygen carrier for use in a method for the treatment of an unpleasant feeling on a surface of a living body due to a disorder or disease.

2. Composition, comprising

(a) An oxygen carrier, and

(b) at least one further ingredient, selected from electrolyte(s) preservative(s), stabilizer(s), anti-flocculant(s), anticoagulant(s), pH buffering agent(s), solvent(s), antioxidant(s), film-forming agent(s), ointment ingredients, oils, greases or fats, or crosslinking agent(s)

for use in a method for the treatment of an unpleasant feeling on a surface of a living body due to a disorder or disease.

3. Composition according to claim 2 characterized in that the composition is an aqueous or organic solution, a lotion, a cream, a gel, an ointment or a powder, or said compound or composition is comprised in a plaster, bandage or dressing.

4. Compound or composition according to any of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that it fullfils at least one of the following:

(i) at least 40%, or at least 50%, preferably at least 60 %, more preferred at least 70%, even more preferred at least 80%, particularly preferred at least 90% of the oxygen carrier is provided in a form wherein the oxygen-binding site is charged with a non-02 ligand,

(ii) the oxygen carrier compound is a naturally occurring hemoglobin or

myoglobin of human or animal origin, or is artificially treated, crosslinked or modified hemoglobin or myoglobin of human or animal origin

(iii) it provided in sterilized form

5. Compound or composition according to any of claims 1 to 4, wherein the unpleasant feeling to be treated is pain, itching, stinging, burning, numbness or swelling.

6. Compound or composition according to any of claims 1 to 5, wherein the unpleasant feeling occurs at body sites or body areas showing blebs, blisters, pimples, rash, red patches, or wheals.

Compound or composition according to any of claims 1 to 6, provided in a packaging means, preferably selected from a container, a tube, a can, an aerosol can, airless dispenser, airless pump dispenser, airless tube, a spraying container or spraying flask, as far as such devices work without sucking back air after an application use, a one-unit-package, an ampulla, a pouch, sachet, package or blow-formed container.

8. Method for preparing a composition according to any of claims 2 to 7, wherein (i) the oxygen carrier is charged with the non-02 ligand during or after isolation from its natural environment,

(ii) at least one further ingredient (b) is added

(iii) the composition is optionally sterilized, preferably by heating, filtration, centrifugation, addition of preservatives, vapour application, gas application or UV- application or a combination of at least two of them; and

(iv) the composition is packaged, preferably in any of the packaging means as mentioned in claim 7.

9. Compound of claim 1 , composition of any of claims 2 to 7 or method according to claim 8, wherein the oxygen carrier compound is isolated and purified from whole blood from a human or an animal, preferably a mammal.

10. Compound, composition or method according to any of the preceding claims,

wherein the oxygen carrier is is a naturally occurring hemoglobin or myoglobin of human or animal origin, wherein in at least 40 % of the oxygen carrier its oxygen binding site is charged with a non-02 ligand.

1 1 . Compound, composition or method according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the non-02 ligand is selected from carbon monoxide and nitrogen monoxide, preferably said ligand is carbon monoxide.

12. Use of an oxygen carrier, preferably hemoglobin or myoglobin charged on its

oxygen-binding site with a non-02 ligand for the preparation of an agent or a composition for the treatment of an unpleasant feeling on a surface of a living body due to a disorder or disease.

13. Compound, composition or use according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the treatment is carried out externally by applying the compound or composition to a body surface, preferably to skin.

Compound, composition or use according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the disorder or disease is caused by a virus, wherein said disorder or disease involves an unpleasant feeling as defined in claim 5 and/or shows any of the symptoms as defined in claim 6, in particular said disorder or disease involves itching and/or stinging and/or pain.

15. Compound, composition or use according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the disorder or disease is caused by a Herpes virus and in particular by a Herpes Zoster virus or a Herpes simplex virus, said disorder or disease preferably is selected from shingles, chickenpox or lip blisters.
