Abstract:
(EN) An opposed-piston engine (10) includes at least two of: a gear train (30, 630) with a backlash reducing means; a viscous damper (300); and a centrifugal pendulum absorber (400). The opposed-piston engine (10) can include two crankshafts (621, 622) and a gear train (30, 630) to connect the crankshafts (621, 622). Any viscous dampers (300) and centrifugal pendulum absorbers (400) can be used to mitigate torsional velocity fluctuations in crankshafts (621, 622) in the engine (10), and multiple viscous dampers (300) and/or centrifugal pendulum absorbers (400) can be used in an engine (10). The backlash reducing means can include any of a means to adjust the position of gears (36a, 36b, 37, 39a, 39b, 660, 661, 662, 663) in a gear train (30, 630) relative to each other and one or more backlash reducing gears (500).
