Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of improving the heat resistance and smoke-suppressing property of a nonaqueous secondary battery. Provided are: a magnesium hydroxide that is intended for use in a nonaqueous secondary battery separator, and that satisfies conditions (A)-(D); a nonaqueous secondary battery separator using said magnesium hydroxide; and a nonaqueous secondary battery using said separator. (A) Primary particles have an average transverse width of 0.1-0.7 μm as measured by a SEM method. (B) The monodispersion degree is at least 50% as represented by the formula: Monodispersion degree (%) = (Average transverse width of primary particles as measured by SEM method/average transverse width of secondary particles as measured by laser diffractometry)×100. (C) The ratio D90/D10 between cumulative 10% particle diameter (D10) on a volumetric basis and cumulative 90% particle diameter (D90) on a volumetric basis as measured by laser diffractometry is at most 10. (D) The lattice distortion in the <101> direction as measured by an X-ray diffraction method is at most 3×10-3.
