The invention relates to a method for controlling a torque transmission device for an electric or hybrid vehicle, capable of transmitting the torque from the electrical machine of the vehicle to the drive wheels of the vehicle in accordance with a plurality of transmission ratios. All the ratios allow the maximum speed of the vehicle to be attained. The method comprises a step of detecting a favourable driving situation, during which a change of transmission ratio can be performed without interrupting the torque. If such a situation is detected, a step determines the optimum transmission ratio, said step including predicting the evolution of the power requirement taking into account the driving conditions. If the determined optimum ratio is different from the currently engaged ratio, a step engages the optimum transmission ratio. Application: electric or hybrid vehicles.
