Abstract:
In a known method for monitoring a laser machining process, a laser beam is directed at a workpiece, laser light that is scattered is detected as stray light and a change in the state of the laser machining process is identified on the basis of the detected stray light intensity. In order to provide a laser machining method, developed from the known method, which uses scattered laser radiation to identify the current process state during laser machining and which guarantees reliable process control, in particular for identifying penetration, according to the invention scattered light is detected below the workpiece and is evaluated in order to identify the change in state.
