Abstract:
A method for the deep welding of a workpiece (2), wherein a surface (16) of the workpiece (2) is irradiated with a laser beam (3), wherein the laser beam (3) produces a vapour cavity (14) and wherein at least two focal points (8a-12a) of the laser beam (3) that lie within the vapour cavity (14) are produced by means of a beam-shaping optical unit (6) along a beam axis (17) of the laser beam (3), is characterized in that the laser power of the laser beam (3) is distributed by means of the beam-shaping optical unit (6) among the at least two focal points (8a-12a) in such a way that more laser power is introduced into a lower half (19) of the vapour cavity (14) away from the surface than into an upper half (20) of the vapour cavity (14) near the surface. The invention provides a deep laser welding method with which reduced hot cracking and preferably also reduced weld spattering is made possible.
