Abstract:
The invention relates to an access control unit (1) for controlling the access to encrypted data (DV) stored in a data memory unit (2), comprising a first physical interface (11) for connecting to at least one data memory unit (2), a second physical interface (12) for connecting to a computer (3), a key input unit (13), and a processor (14), wherein - the first physical interface (11) is designed to access at least one container (C) stored on at least one data memory unit (2), - the access control unit (1) is designed to protect access to a virtual drive via the second physical interface (12) according to a specified protocol, - the key input unit (13) is designed to input a key (S) by a user, and - when a read request (L) is present at the second physical interface (12), the processor (14) is designed to provide an access request relating to the read request to the first physical interface (11), access the data (DV) stored in at least one container (C) on the at least one data memory unit (2) via the second physical interface (12), decrypt the contents of the container (C) using the key (S), and provide said contents to the second physical interface (12).
