There is provided a system and method for managing vehicular road usage, wherein distance and location traversed by a vehicle are determined by an in-vehicle processing unit. A vehicular road usage surcharge is determined by the in- vehicle processing unit. Payment information is sent to a central server. Subsequent payment of the surcharge is performed by a payment processing system using a digital wallet account associated with a user of the vehicle. The user can decide to vary road usage habits/patterns depending on a frequency and/or quantum of payments carried out via the digital wallet. Correspondingly, vehicular volume is also affected.
