Abstract:
A cladding mode stripper that has a high-refractive-index resin body that does not as readily generate heat as in conventional cladding mode strippers. A cladding mode stripper (1) that comprises a high-refractive-index resin body (11) that covers an uncoated interval (I) of an optical fiber (5) and has a higher refractive index than an inside cladding (52) of the optical fiber (5). A surface of the high-refractive-index resin body (11) that is opposite the interface between the high-refractive-index resin body (11) and an outermost shell structure has formed thereon a planar prism (111p) that acts as a structure for decreasing the angle, or the average angle, at which cladding mode light that has entered the high-refractive-index resin body (11) from the optical fiber (5) is incident at the abovementioned surface.
