The present invention provides a method for improving or controlling the plasma half-life and/or bioavailability of coagulation factor IX (FIX), the method being characterized by modifying the GLA domain. Examples of such modification include: (i) non-covalent bonding of a GLA-domain-recognizing antibody or an antibody fragment thereof to the GLA domain; (ii) a reduced number of Gla residues in the GLA domain compared to native FIX; (iii) deleting one or more glutamic acid group in the GLA domain and/or substituting the same with another amino acid; and (iv) deleting part or all of the GLA domain. The present invention also provides FIX with improved pharmacokinetics comprising such modifications, a pharmaceutical composition containing said FIX as an active ingredient, a method for producing said FIX, and so forth.
