Abstract:
This device for controlling an internal combustion engine has an injection ending period setting unit that sets an injection ending period of a fuel injection valve, and a command output unit that outputs to the fuel injection valve a valve-opening command signal to end fuel injection during the injection ending period. The injection ending period setting unit sets the injection ending period to a period in which, as the load of the internal combustion engine increases, the crank angle further advances within the crank angle region that follows intake top dead center. Due to this process for setting the injection ending period, the amount of fuel flowing into the cylinder as a wall flow decreases, and the number PN of exhaust particles of a particulate substance in the exhaust decreases.
