Abstract:
Provided is a suitable tapered roller bearing that causes little torque loss and generates little heat as a result of friction and that makes it possible to shorten warm-up operation time. When a reference radius of curvature for a large end surface (16) of a roller (12) is denoted by R and the distance from the vertex of the cone angle of the roller (12) to a large flange surface (18) of an inner ring (13) is denoted by RBASE, the value of R/RBASE is 0.75-0.87. The distance from the outermost surface of at least one of an outer ring (11), the inner ring (13), and a plurality of the rollers (12) to a bottom section of a nitrogen-enriched layer is 0.2 mm or more. Crowning is formed on the rolling surfaces (12A) of the rollers (12). In a y-z coordinate system in which the generating line of the rolling surface of a tapered roller serves as the y-axis and a direction orthogonal to the generating line serves as the z-axis, the sum of the drop amount of the crowning is expressed using the following: design parameters K1, K2, zm; a load Q; the length L of an effective contact section of the rolling surface in the tapered roller in the generating line direction; an equivalent modulus of elasticity E'; the length a from a starting point taken on the generating line of the rolling surface of the tapered roller to the end of the effective contact section; and the formula A = 2K1Q/πLE'.
