A control system for a work vehicle having a work machine comprises a controller. The controller is programmed so as to perform the following process. The controller receives an input signal indicating an operation input by an operator. The controller acquires vehicle information including the position of the work vehicle when the input signal was received, and orientation information for the work vehicle when the input signal was received. The controller determines a target design surface indicating a target trajectory for the work machine, on the basis of the vehicle information and the orientation information when the input signal was received.
