Abstract:
This method for manufacturing a cutting tool according to one embodiment is a method for manufacturing a cutting tool having a blade which is provided with a base material and a diamond single-crystal body affixed to the base material, the diamond single-crystal body being constituted by a cutting face, a flank face which is continuous with the cutting face, and a ridge forming a boundary between the cutting face and the flank face. The method for manufacturing a cutting tool according to one aspect of the present invention comprises a flank face irradiation step which irradiates the diamond single-crystal body with a laser from the flank face side. In the flank face irradiation step, the laser pulse width is 1 × 10–12 seconds or less, and the laser peak output is less than 1 W.
