Abstract:
A negative electrode active material for a lithium ion secondary battery comprising silicon oxide particles having carbon present in a portion or the entirety of the surface thereof, wherein the ratio (PSi/PSiO2) of the X ray diffraction peak intensity at 2θ=27° to 29° originating from Si, relative to the X ray diffraction peak intensity at 2θ=20° to 25° originating from SiO2, falls in the range of 1.0 to 2.6 when CuKα radiation with a wavelength of 0.15406 nm is used as the beam source, and the aspect ratio, represented by the ratio (S/L) between a long axis L and a short axis S thereof, has a mean value that falls in the range of 0.45≤S/L≤1.
