Abstract:
The invention relates to an automatic knee prosthesis with flexion-extension and automatic axial, medial and lateral passive rotation movements, of the type that comprises first connection means for attaching the prosthesis to a stump support or "socket" of a lower-limb amputee; articulation means for simulating a flexion-extension movement of the knee; and second connection means for attaching the prosthesis to an element that simulates the distal end of a lower limb; the prosthesis also comprises axial rotation means located inside the first connection means to allow a change of plane of the prosthesis with respect to the stump support; motor means located between the articulation means and the second connection means, to move the articulation means; sensors which measure the orientation in space, the travel position of the flexion-extension movement, the acceleration of the prosthesis and the muscular activity of the amputee; and an integrated circuit that receives the parameters measured by the sensors, calculates the position of the prosthesis and determines the power to be generated by the motor means in order for the prosthesis to carry out the movement stimulated by the amputee.
