The present invention relates to a method for the production of a solid material comprising manganese, said method including the following steps: a) bringing an aqueous effluent comprising manganese, e.g. at least 5 mg/L, typically at least between 5 and 50 mg/L, and preferably between 7 and 25 mg/L manganese, into contact with a manganese-oxidizing agent, preferably at a temperature of between 10°C and 50°C, and obtaining an oxidised aqueous solution; b) adding a base to the oxidized aqueous solution obtained in step (a) until a pH of between 8 and 12, preferably greater than 9 and more preferably between 9 and 10.5 is reached, and obtaining a solution comprising a precipitate; c) filtering the solution obtained in step (b); and d) obtaining a solid material comprising manganese, in particular manganese (IV) and/or Mn (III).
