The invention relates to a high-pressure gas drive unit consists of high-pressure accumulators (1a-1h) having installed registers, in which gas having high pressure in the initial state is contained. In the case of half of the high-pressure accumulators, heat is supplied by means of registers, and this leads to an increase in pressure. The other accumulators are cooled. The corresponding pressure difference of the gas is used to move the pistons of a plurality of compressors (2i-2l), which are connected in series with lines (22). For this purpose, gas is used in the first and last cylinder chambers (4) of the compressors (2i, 2l) and subsequently liquid. By opening and closing valves (14-21) of the high-pressure accumulators, which are each under pressure, piston movement is produced by means of gas pressure and liquid pressure in both directions. By means of attached cylinders (5, 7) on the compressors (2i-2l), the pistons contained therein are moved, which suck in respiratory air and supply and start up compressed-air-operated technical devices therewith. By compressing and expanding the air, heat and cooling can be produced. The compressors can also be used as a water piston pump (21).
