CLAIMS

1 . A communication device (400), comprising:

- a processor (401 ) configured to perform during a time period a determination if a transmission medium is free for communication; and

- a transmitter (403) configured to transmit a wake-up signal on the transmission medium if the transmission medium is free.

2. The communication device (400) according to claim 1 , further comprising:

- a detector (407) configured to detect during the time period if the transmission medium is free for communication;

and wherein the determination is based on the detection of the detector (407).

3. The communication device (400) according to claim 1 , further comprising:

- a receiver (405) configured to receive an notification from another device;

and wherein the determination is based on the notification.

4. The communication device (400) according to any of the preceding claims, wherein

- the processor (401 ) is further configured to switch the communication device to an idle mode if the transmission medium is not free.

5. The communication device (400) according to any of the preceding claims, wherein

- the transmitter (403) is further configured to transmit a preamble;

and wherein the time period starts after the preamble is transmitted by the transmitter (403).

6. The communication device (400) according to any of the preceding claims, wherein a length of the time period is predefined in the communication device, or decided by the processor (401 ).

7. The communication device (400) according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the length of the time period is decided by the processor (401 ) based on a Tx-Rx switching time, a time for the detector to perform the detection, and/or an Rx-Tx switching time.

8. The communication device (400) according to any of claims 6 and 7, wherein

- the processor (401 ) is further configured to randomly select how many time slots are included in the time period;

and wherein the length of the time period is decided by the processor (401 ) based on how many time slots are selected.

9. The communication device (400) according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the communication device is an access point, AP.

10. A communication method, comprising the steps:

- performing, by a communication device (400), during a time period a determination if a transmission medium is free for communication; and

- transmitting (Step 505b), by the communication device (400), a wake-up signal on the transmission medium if the transmission medium is free.

1 1 . The communication method according to claim 1 1 , further comprising:

- detecting (Step 501 ), by the communication device (400) during the time period, if the transmission medium is free for communication;

and wherein the determination is based on a detection result (Step 503).

12. The communication method according to any of the preceding claims, further comprising:

- switching (Step 505a) the communication device (400) to an idle mode if the transmission medium is not free.

13. The communication method according to any of the preceding claims, further comprising:

- transmitting, by the communication device (400), a preamble;

and wherein the time period starts after the preamble is transmitted.

14. The communication method according to any of the preceding claims, further comprising:

- obtaining, by the communication device (400), a predefined length of the time period, or

- deciding, by the communication device (400), a length of the time period.

15. A computer program comprising a computer code for performing the method according to any of claims 10 to 14 when the computer program runs on a computer.
