Abstract
(EN) The following discloses a novel model for parasitic worm infection, which is useful for screening for and evaluating the efficacy of antiparasitic agents. In particular, the disclosure provides an immunocompromised mouse model that, for the first time, supports advanced development of Dirofilaria immitis (Di) parasites outside of their definitive hosts. As described herein, early-stage larval forms of Di, the causative agent of Canine Heartworm disease, not only persist in this model, but they develop into mature worms.
(FR) L'invention concerne un nouveau modèle pour une infection par un ver parasite, qui est utile pour le criblage et l'évaluation de l'efficacité d'agents antiparasitaires. En particulier, l'invention concerne un modèle de souris immunodéprimée qui, pour la première fois, supporte le développement avancé de parasites Dirofilaria immitis (Di) à l'extérieur de leurs hôtes définitifs. Comme décrit dans la description, les formes larvaires de stade précoce de Di, l'agent causal de la maladie des vers du cœur du chien, non seulement persistent dans ce modèle, mais se développent en vers matures.
