Abstract:
(EN) Exhaust generated from an internal combustion engine includes particulates and gas- phase volatile hydrocarbon condensables. The exhaust is cooled in an exhaust gas cooler from a first temperature to a second temperature such that a first portion of the gas-phase volatile hydrocarbon condensables in the exhaust condense to the liquid phase and a second portion of the gas-phase volatile hydrocarbon condensables in the exhaust condense on black carbon particles to form semivolatile brown carbon particulates. Some or all of the liquid-phase volatile hydrocarbon condensables and the semivolatile brown carbon particulates are trapped in a gasoline particulate filter or a catalyzed gasoline particulate filter located downstream of the exhaust gas cooler.
(FR) Les gaz d'échappement générés par un moteur à combustion interne comprennent des particules et des condensables d'hydrocarbures volatils en phase gazeuse. Les gaz d'échappement sont refroidis dans un refroidisseur de gaz d'échappement d'une première température à une seconde température permettant de condenser une première partie des condensables d'hydrocarbures volatils en phase gazeuse des gaz d'échappement en phase liquide et de condenser une seconde partie des condensables d'hydrocarbures volatils en phase gazeuse des gaz d'échappement sur des particules de carbone noir de façon à former des particules de carbone brun semi-volatiles. Une partie ou la totalité des condensables d'hydrocarbures volatils en phase liquide et des particules de carbone brun semi-volatiles est piégée dans un filtre à particules d'essence ou dans un filtre à particules d'essence catalysé situé en aval du refroidisseur de gaz d'échappement.
