The at least one sensor and/or detector unit (S1, S2) is connected to a game controller. In a particularly advantageous manner, each opening (6.3) is paired with at least one first sensor and/or detector unit (S1) comprising a first detection region (E1) and with a second sensor and detector unit (S2) comprising a second detection region (E2), said first and second detection region (E1, E2) being mutually spaced. Additionally, the first sensor and/or detector unit (S1) is designed to generate a first detection signal (ES1) which indicates that a ball is located in the first detection region (E1), and the second sensor and/or detector unit (S2) is designed to generate a second detection signal (ES2) which indicates that a ball is located in the second detection region (E2). The game controller is additionally designed to detect and evaluate the course of the game depending on the presence and/or the chronological sequence of the presence of the at least first and second detection signal (ES1, ES2). The invention likewise relates to a corresponding method for detecting and evaluating the course of a game of such a ball play area.
