Abstract
(EN) This invention provides multifunctional coatings containing multiple components that usually do not associate with one another, from deposition of waterborne precursor compositions. Some variations provide a multiphase waterborne composition comprising a first-material phase containing a first material and a second-material phase containing a second material chemically different than, but covalently bonded to, the first material, wherein the first material and/or the second material contains ionic species. The first-material phase and the second-material phase are microphase-separated on an average length scale of phase inhomogeneity from 0.1 to 100 microns. The first and second materials may be selected from hydrophobic materials, hydrophilic materials, hygroscopic materials, oleophobic materials, and/or oleophilic materials, for example. Due to the first-material phase and the second-material phase being microphase-separated, the multiphase waterborne composition possesses a simultaneous combination of properties, rather than a combined average. Precursors and methods are also disclosed.
(FR) La présente invention concerne des revêtements multifonctionnels contenant de multiples composants qui ne s'associent habituellement pas les uns aux autres, par un dépôt de compositions de précurseur aqueuses. Certaines variantes concernent une composition aqueuse à phases multiples comprenant une phase de premier matériau contenant un premier matériau et une phase de second matériau contenant un second matériau chimiquement différent du premier matériau, mais lié par covalence à celui-ci, le premier matériau et/ou le second matériau contenant des espèces ioniques. La phase de premier matériau et la phase de second matériau sont séparées en microphases sur une échelle de longueur moyenne d'inhomogénéité de phase de 0,1 à 100 microns. Les premier et second matériaux peuvent être choisis parmi des matériaux hydrophobes, des matériaux hydrophiles, des matériaux hygroscopiques, des matériaux oléophobes et/ou des matériaux oléophiles, par exemple. La phase du premier matériau et la phase du second matériau étant séparées en microphases, la composition aqueuse à phases multiples présente une combinaison simultanée de propriétés, plutôt qu'une moyenne combinée.
