C l a i m s

1 . Rudder (1 ) for a vessel (100), the rudder (1 ) comprising;

- a profile element (1 1 ) provided at the leading edge of the rudder (1 ),

- a rudder body (6) provided behind the profile element (1 1 ), the rudder body (6) being rotatable, by means of a rudder stock (60), relative to the profile element (1 1 ) around a substantially vertical axis, wherein the profile element (1 1 ) is provided with ducts (44, 46), connectable to a water supply (4), and adapted to discharge water rearwards along the surface of the rudder body (6), c h a r a c t e r i z e d i n that the profile element (1 1 ) is adapted to be rigidly connected to the hull (20) of the vessel (100) so that the profile element (1 1 ), in its longitudinal direction (L), is constantly pointing forward in the longitudinal direction of the hull (20).

2. Rudder (1 ) according to claim 1 , wherein the ducts (44, 46) in the profile element (1 1 ) extend vertically substantially along the full height of the profile element (1 1 ).

3. Rudder (1 ) according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the profile element (1 1 ) is provided with guiding means (48) for guiding the water out from the ducts (44, 46) and rearwards along the surface of the rudder body (6).

4. Rudder (1 ) according to claim 3, wherein the guiding means is a pair of flaps (48) extending rearwards from the profile element along each side of the rudder body (6) in order to guide the water along the surface of the rudder body (6).

5. Rudder (1 ) according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the rudder body (6) is

formed with a NACA profile substantially symmetrical about a central, longitudinal axis (L).

6. Rudder (1 ) according to any of the preceding claims, where in the rudder body (6) is formed with ducts (50, 52), connectable to the water supply (4), adapted to discharge water rearwards along the rudder body (6).

7. Rudder (1 ) according to claim 6, wherein the ducts (50, 52) in the rudder body extend vertically through the rudder stock (60), longitudinally rearwards through rudder body (6) and out through openings (56, 58) on each side of the rudder body (6).

8. Rudder (1 ) according to claim 7, wherein the openings (56, 58) on each side of the rudder body (6) are adapted to guide the water rearwards along the rudder body (6).

9. Rudder system (10) comprising a rudder (1 ) according to any of the previous claims, the rudder system (10) further being provided with:

- steering system (3) for rotating the rudder body (6) relative to the profile element (1 1 ); - a water supply (4); and

- a water distribution system (5) for distributing water from the water supply (4) to the rudder (1 ).

10. Rudder system (10) according to claim 9, wherein the water supply (4) comprises a sea chest (19) and a pump (14).

1 1 . Rudder system (10) according to claim 9, where in the water supply (4) comprises a hatch (26) in the hull (20) of the vessel (1 00) and a valve (24) for regulating intake of water through the hatch (26) to the water distribution system (5).

Rudder system (10) according to any of the claims 9-1 1 , wherein the water distribution system (5) comprises a water distribution member (32) provided between the water supply (4) and the rudder (1 ), wherein the water distribution member (32) is adapted to regulate the water supply to the ducts (44, 46, 50, 52) in the rudder (1 ).

Rudder system (10) according to claim 12, wherein the water distribution member (32) is provided in a Y-junction (28), wherein the Y-junction (28) connects incoming water from the water supply (4) to the ducts on (44, 46, 50, 52) on each side of the rudder (6), and wherein the water distribution member (32) regulates the flow of water to either side of the rudder (1 ).

Rudder system (10) according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the water distribution system comprises a control unit (8) connected to the steering system (3), the control unit (8) being adapted to regulate the water distribution member (32), and thus the water distribution to the rudder (1 ), based on data from the steering system (3).
