Abstract:
(EN) A piston ring is made from a copper-beryllium alloy. This material permits the top compression ring of a piston to be moved closer to the piston crown, reducing crevice volume and reducing the tendency for pre-ignition. Ignition timing advance can be realized by installing the rings and letting the ECU advance the timing as the sensors allow, increasing efficiency. Also, shorter pistons and longer connecting rods are possible. The shorter pistons reduces the reciprocated mass in the engine and the longer connecting rods reduce the frictional loss caused by radial forces pushing the piston against the liner. Both reducing volume and tendency for pre-ignition increase engine efficiency.
(FR) Une bague de piston est fabriquée à partir d'un alliage de cuivre-béryllium. Ce matériau permet de rapprocher la bague de compression supérieure plus près de la tête du piston, de réduire le volume de fente et de réduire la tendance au pré-allumage. L'avance à l'allumage peut être réalisée en installant les bagues et en laissant l'ECU avancer la synchronisation lorsque les capteurs permettent une meilleure efficacité. En outre, des pistons plus courts et des bielles de liaison plus longues sont possibles. Les pistons plus courts réduisent la masse animée d'un mouvement de va-et-vient dans le moteur et les bielles de liaison plus longues réduisent la perte par frottement provoquée par des forces radiales poussant le piston contre la chemise. La réduction du volume et de la tendance au pré-allumage augmentent le rendement du moteur.
