Abstract:
A method of sensing hydrocarbons in a subterranean rock formation (104), including advancing a drilling assembly (100) within the subterranean rock formation (104). The drilling assembly (100) is configured to discharge a first fluid (164) into the subterranean rock formation (104), and wherein a second fluid (166) flows past an exterior of the drilling assembly (100). The method further includes sampling at least one of the first fluid (164) and the second fluid (166), thereby defining a sampled amount of fluid, and determining a hydrocarbon content of the sampled amount of fluid.
