Disclosed herein are processes for converting an unsaturated fatty acid into a saturated branched-chain fatty acid through a zeolite-catalyzed process and methods of economically regenerating and reusing the zeolite catalyst. The processes include subjecting the unsaturated fatty acid to an isomerization reaction to result in a selective conversion of the unsaturated fatty acid into the saturated branched-chain fatty acid. The reaction occurs in the presence of (i) an activated zeolite catalyst, (ii) an effective amount of water, and (iii) optionally an oligomerization reducing agent. The spent zeolite catalyst may be regenerated by heating to create a regenerated zeolite catalyst that is functional for use as the activated zeolite catalyst.

L'invention concerne des procédés de conversion d'un acide gras insaturé en un acide gras saturé à chaîne ramifiée par l'intermédiaire d'un procédé catalysé par une zéolite et des procédés de régénération et de réutilisation économiques du catalyseur de zéolite. Les procédés comprennent la soumission de l'acide gras insaturé à une réaction d'isomérisation pour conduire à une conversion sélective de l'acide gras insaturé en acide gras saturé à chaîne ramifiée. La réaction se produit en présence (i) d'un catalyseur de zéolite activée, (ii) d'une quantité efficace d'eau, et (iii) éventuellement d'un agent de réduction d'oligomérisation. Le catalyseur de zéolite usé peut être régénéré par chauffage pour créer un catalyseur de zéolite régénéré qui est fonctionnel pour une utilisation en tant que catalyseur de zéolite activé.
