Abstract:
(EN) Enhanced trick-play modes for video content that is being streamed to a client from a server are described. In an embodiment, the enhanced trick-play modes are provided with relatively low latency and high quality using trick-play optimization techniques for a streaming environment, avoiding the need to stream the entire contents of the portions through which the viewer is fast forwarding. By employing sophisticated selection criteria of which parts of the content to download at what time, the quality of the playback experience is improved versus that which would conventionally be possible when using a simple sequential frame data download. The streaming client maintains a cache of nearby significant frames, such as nearby key frames, in forward and/or reverse directions of the current playback position, without having to download the entire portions of the video stream in which the significant frames reside. The trick-play modes utilize these frames.
(FR) L'invention concerne des modes de lecture spéciale améliorés pour un contenu vidéo qui est transmis en continu à un client à partir d'un serveur. Dans un mode de réalisation, les modes de de lecture spéciale améliorés sont fournis avec une latence relativement faible et une qualité élevée à l'aide de techniques d'optimisation de lecture spéciale pour un environnement de diffusion en continu, évitant le besoin de diffuser le contenu entier des parties que le spectateur fait défiler en avance rapide. En employant des critères de sélection sophistiqués concernant quelles parties du contenu télécharger à quel moment, la qualité de l'expérience de lecture est améliorée par rapport à celle qui est habituellement possible lors de l'utilisation d'un simple téléchargement de données de trame séquentielle. Le client de diffusion en continu maintient une mémoire cache de trames significatives proches, telles que des trames clés proches, dans des directions vers l'avant et/ou vers l'arrière de la position de lecture actuelle, sans avoir à télécharger les parties entières du flux vidéo dans lequel se trouvent les trames significatives. Les modes de lecture spéciale utilisent ces trames.
