Provided is an aqueous pigment dispersion which has excellent dispersion stability and exhibits excellent ink ejection properties even if used as an ink for inkjet recording. The present invention relates to: [1] an aqueous pigment dispersion which contains a pigment (A), a crosslinked polymer (B) having a carboxy group, and an ethanol amine (C) having an alkyl group and a pKa of 8.7 or more; [2] an aqueous ink which contains this aqueous pigment dispersion, an organic solvent and a surfactant; and [3] a method for producing an aqueous pigment dispersion, which comprises a step (I) wherein a mixture of the pigment (A), the crosslinkable polymer, the ethanol amine (C), an organic solvent and water is subjected to a dispersion process, thereby obtaining a dispersion of polymer particles that contain a pigment wherein the crosslinkable polymer adheres to the pigment (A), a step (II) wherein the organic solvent is removed from the thus-obtained dispersion, thereby obtaining an aqueous dispersion of the polymer particles that contain the pigment, and a step (III) wherein the aqueous dispersion of the polymer particles is subjected to a crosslinking process using a crosslinking agent, thereby obtaining an aqueous pigment dispersion which contains particles of the crosslinked polymer (B) containing the pigment.
